Mohamed Abdalla, 25, was arrested on Monday night in the 1000 block of Kings Court in connection to a shooting that was reported at the Worldgate Shopping Center on Sunday that left one person with serious injuries.

A spokesperson from the Herndon Police Department said that at around 7:40 p.m. on Oct. 6, an officer on patrol heard gunshots in the area, and when approaching the shopping center to investigate, a vehicle sped away, leading to a pursuit, though officers lost sight of it on Dulles Toll Road.

While the pursuit was ongoing, police say that a 911 call came in about a victim who suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the shopping center's parking lot.

First responders were able to render emergency aid until paramedics arrived. On Tuesday afternoon, Abdalla's victim was listed in stable condition.

According to police, shortly after the pursuit and shooting, a witness returned to the scene and advised that she and a minor were in the vehicle that left the parking lot, and that they were able to escape.

The vehicle was later recovered in Reston on Sunday night.

Abdalla was charged with:

  • Malicious wounding;
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony;
  • Two counts of abduction.

All felonies.

He's being held at the Fairfax County Detention Center.
